My graphic design professor keeps conscripting me into doing design projects this summer. One of them she didn’t even ask me about, she just told the client that she had two designers working on their project and then forwarded that to me.
Really this is a good thing for me in terms of experience and keeping me busy over the break, but I’m having a bit of a tough time motivating myself because I just want to be lazy.
Also, this is technically supposed to be coursework for a class that I’m not even enrolled in… but I really just need to buck up and be grateful for the opportunity. I feel like some people don’t understand that. They ask “Well are you getting paid? No? You’re doing this for free and for no college credit?” Yes I am, because it’s valuable in itself: it’s portfolio- and resume-building. I’m going to have a kickass resume and portfolio when I graduate because I’m getting experience before I even start my junior year. And hopefully that will make things relatively easy down the road.
